MICHAEL ZAPORSKI & FUTURE VISIONS
October 2, 2025 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Michael Zaporski (piano) crafts remarkable music that blends the rich heritage of American jazz with the dynamic rhythms of West African traditions. As the longtime pianist for the late Detroit saxophonist Sam Sanders, Zaporski traveled to West Africa under the auspices of the U.S. State Department, where he performed and taught jazz. This enduring connection opened doors to collaborations with legendary jazz figures such as Jackie McLean, Frank Foster, Art Blakey, Pharaoh Sanders, and Donald Byrd.
With his ensemble FutureVisions, Zaporski has headlined jazz festivals and performed at colleges nationwide. His recordings—including an acclaimed work for orchestra, chorus, and jazz quartet—have been praised for their innovation and depth. In addition to leading his own group, he is a key member of the esteemed Planet D Nonet, where he brings his diverse musical background into a vibrant large ensemble setting.
Whether leading FutureVisions or performing with Planet D Nonet, Zaporski infuses each original piece and jazz standard with the depth and refinement born of his global musical journey. Merging high-octane energy with African rhythmic influences and evocative melodies, he remains devoted to the spirit of innovation and individuality that defines the American jazz tradition.
