Gretchen Carhartt Valade is known as the “angel of jazz” for her long-lasting contributions to Detroit’s art and cultural scene as well as the global jazz community. At age 82, she opened the Dirty Dog Jazz Cafe. It was one of her favorite places, where she could be found most nights enjoying the music and cheering on the artists. We take great pride in honoring her legacy with our award winning jazz and dinner club.
