SUMMARY:Sean Dobbins

SUMMARY:Michael Zaporski
DESCRIPTION:Michael Zaporski creates astonishing music that merges American jazz traditions with a West-African-influenced rhythmic dialogue. Serving as the pianist for the late Detroit saxophonist Sam Sanders\, Zaporski traveled to West Africa\, playing and teaching jazz through the U.S. State Department. This long-time association lead to performances with such renowned jazz artists as Jackie McLean\, Frank Foster\, Art Blakey\, Pharaoh Sanders\, and Donald Byrd. Whether fronting his own group or playing with the Planet D. Nonet\, Zaporski imbues every original composition and jazz-standard with a wealth of sophistication gained through these experiences. Through his own group\, FutureVisions\, Zaporski has garnered headlining performances at jazz festivals and colleges\, and has released several recordings— including one for orchestra\, chorus\, and jazz quartet—to critical acclaim. Combining adrenaline-pumping energy levels with African rhythms and haunting melodies\, Zaporski continues the pursuit of excellence and individuality that is the essence of the American jazz tradition.

DESCRIPTION:I was born in Pontiac in 1992 and spent most of my childhood in Lake Orion. I was diagnosed with autism between the ages of 3 and 4. I picked up the trumpet during the 3rd grade and had my first lesson at age 12. I graduated from Goodrich High School in 2012\, with Magnum Cum Laude Honors.  \nMy introduction to jazz began in the 9th grade in the Goodrich HS Jazz Band\, while my overall musical inspiration came from my first trumpet teacher Caroline Cates. I attended and graduated from Oakland University\, with a major in Bachelor of Arts in Music\, and a minor in Jazz studies; and have performed with the OU big band with special guest artists: Regina Carter\, Scott Gwinell\, John Douglas\, Rayse Biggs\, and others with Pat Cronley\, Bill Meyers\, Gwen Hemphill\, Marcia Allen\, John Hill\, and others. I am currently part of the Gary Greenfelder Orchestra\, perform sometimes with the Kennebec Avenue Group\, formed my own Jazz/funk quintet\, and have appeared at clubs and breweries like the Dirty Dog Jazz Cafe\, Bert’s Marketplace\, Homegrown Brewing Company\, Club 54\, Arts Beats and Eats Festival and others.  \nMy goal is to inspire others\, along with spreading the awareness of autism and good vibes with my music.  \nAbout the Quintet: as a group\, we perform our own arrangements of covers from internationally and nationally famous artists like Lee Morgan\, Freddie Hubbard\, Chuck Mangione\, Herbie Hancock\, Motown greats like Stevie Wonder\, and more; in addition to our own original compositions and arrangements of some of the most well known Jazz standards of our time. \nThese performances will include the talents of: \n\nColin McCahill– alto/soprano sax\n\nHayden Cusmano– guitar (Friday and Saturday)\n\nMatthew Balos– piano/electronic keys\n\nJackson Stone– bass\n\nRoland Chandler– percussion\n\nChris White– drums

SUMMARY:Zen Zedravec
DESCRIPTION:Zen Zadravec\, jazz pianist\, saxophonist\, and composer views all music as a form of creative communication. The goal is to create music based on human experience. It is also to absorb as much music as possible to develop through the lens of Humanism based on the philosophies of Nichiren Buddhism. Ultimately\, Zadravec strives to create music that inspires\, encourages\, and touches people’s hearts.   \n  \nZadravec is a musical chameleon. Whether it is jazz\, R&B\, funk\, rock\, or pop\, he plays each with freshness and confidence rarely found in someone so young.  A natural innovator and leader\, he runs two of his own bands: the Zen Zadravec Quartet and his fusion group Human Revolution. Zadravec has also performed or recorded with: Ron Carter\, Louis Hayes\, Karriem Riggins\, Ali Jackson\, Mike Pope\, Mark Whitfield Jr.\, Bijon Watson\, Mark Gross\, Derrick Gardner\, Vincent Gardner\, Todd Bashore\, Kenny Davis\, Steve Turre\, Ralph Bowen\, Sean Jones\, Conrad Herwig\, Freddie Hendrix\, Don Thompson\, Lorne Lofsky\, Charles Fambrough\, Valery Ponomarev\, Dave Watson\, Darryl Dixon\, Gloria Gaynor\, Joan Rivers\, Bob Newhart\, Sally Kellerman\, among others. \n  \nVersatile\, creative\, energetic\, and dynamic\, Zadravec is continuously experimenting and  \nrefining his sound and musical conception through concerts\, recordings\, and  \neducation. His music is always exploring beautiful melodies\, interesting  \nchord progressions\, and rhythmic diversity. \n  \nHis new work pushes all boundaries in Zadravec’s composing from the use of melody\, harmony\, rhythm\, and even employing odd time signatures and the voice as a melodic device-vocalese.
