SUMMARY:Mason Bays
DESCRIPTION:I was born in Pontiac in 1992 and spent most of my childhood in Lake Orion. I was diagnosed with autism between the ages of 3 and 4. I picked up the trumpet during the 3rd grade and had my first lesson at age 12. I graduated from Goodrich High School in 2012\, with Magnum Cum Laude Honors.  \nMy introduction to jazz began in the 9th grade in the Goodrich HS Jazz Band\, while my overall musical inspiration came from my first trumpet teacher Caroline Cates. I attended and graduated from Oakland University\, with a major in Bachelor of Arts in Music\, and a minor in Jazz studies; and have performed with the OU big band with special guest artists: Regina Carter\, Scott Gwinell\, John Douglas\, Rayse Biggs\, and others with Pat Cronley\, Bill Meyers\, Gwen Hemphill\, Marcia Allen\, John Hill\, and others. I am currently part of the Gary Greenfelder Orchestra\, perform sometimes with the Kennebec Avenue Group\, formed my own Jazz/funk quintet\, and have appeared at clubs and breweries like the Dirty Dog Jazz Cafe\, Bert’s Marketplace\, Homegrown Brewing Company\, Club 54\, Arts Beats and Eats Festival and others.  \nMy goal is to inspire others\, along with spreading the awareness of autism and good vibes with my music.  \nAbout the Quintet: as a group\, we perform our own arrangements of covers from internationally and nationally famous artists like Lee Morgan\, Freddie Hubbard\, Chuck Mangione\, Herbie Hancock\, Motown greats like Stevie Wonder\, and more; in addition to our own original compositions and arrangements of some of the most well known Jazz standards of our time. \nThese performances will include the talents of: \n\nColin McCahill– alto/soprano sax\n\nHayden Cusmano– guitar (Friday and Saturday)\n\nMatthew Balos– piano/electronic keys\n\nJackson Stone– bass\n\nRoland Chandler– percussion\n\nChris White– drums

SUMMARY:Michael Zaporski
DESCRIPTION:Michael Zaporski creates astonishing music that merges American jazz traditions with a West-African-influenced rhythmic dialogue. Serving as the pianist for the late Detroit saxophonist Sam Sanders\, Zaporski traveled to West Africa\, playing and teaching jazz through the U.S. State Department. This long-time association lead to performances with such renowned jazz artists as Jackie McLean\, Frank Foster\, Art Blakey\, Pharaoh Sanders\, and Donald Byrd. Whether fronting his own group or playing with the Planet D. Nonet\, Zaporski imbues every original composition and jazz-standard with a wealth of sophistication gained through these experiences. Through his own group\, FutureVisions\, Zaporski has garnered headlining performances at jazz festivals and colleges\, and has released several recordings— including one for orchestra\, chorus\, and jazz quartet—to critical acclaim. Combining adrenaline-pumping energy levels with African rhythms and haunting melodies\, Zaporski continues the pursuit of excellence and individuality that is the essence of the American jazz tradition.

SUMMARY:Gerard Gibbs
DESCRIPTION:Gerard William Gibbs\, born November 16th 1967\, has been a lover of Jazz ever since his father introduced him at the tender age of three to the music of the late Jazz organist\, Richard ““Groove” Holmes. At age seven\, when he later had the opportunity to meet Holmes\, Gerard grew to idolize Holmes. He knew then that one day\, he would play Jazz just like his idol. \nGerard Gibbs\, born and raised in Detroit\, Michigan\, is a product of the Detroit Public Schools. He began his musical training in classical Piano at the age of nine. Although he took to this musical style fairly quickly\, his interest in performing Jazz never waned. In the summer of 1981\, while recovering at home from corrective leg surgery\, Gerard received a surprise visit from “Groove” Holmes. Holmes took an immediate interest in Gerard and began to show him all the “tricks of the trade”. Until Holmes’ death in 1991\, Gerard had the kind of friendship and mentoring relationship with this international jazz organist that others can only dream about. \nIn 1996\, Gerard was again fortunate. He met another jazz organist\, Jimmy Smith. He was introduced to Smith while attending his concert at the Bluebird Inn in Detroit. Smith took a liking to Gerard as well\, and began to show his some of his techniques. Since that time Gerard’s friendship with Jimmy Smith has proven to be of great value. Gerard also has had opportunities to rub shoulders with jazz organists Joey DeFrancesco\, Jimmy McGriff\, and the late Jack McDuff. In September of 1999\, Gerard had the opportunity to jam with the “Mighty Burner”\, the late Charles Earland. All of these encounters have contributed to Gerard’s development as a versatile musical artist skilled beyond his years. \nCurrently\, Gerard performs nationally on the concert circuit with saxmen Marion Meadows\, Ronnie Laws and James Carter. He also lends his talents to the hot contemporary jazz group: Pieces Of a Dream. While at home in Detroit\, Gibbs remains busy as he works as an Architectural Engineer for the City of Detroit by day and leads two jazz bands at night and on weekends. He plays keyboards in his contemporary jazz group\, RYZ (pronounced “Rise”) and organ for Gerard Gibbs & ORGANized Crime. Gerard recently completed his debut CD with his organ trio in commemoration to his first mentor\, the late Richard “Groove” Holmes.
