DESCRIPTION:Ron English and his Crew of like-minded players have been warmly received whenever they have played for the Dirty Dog Jazz Cafe audience\, and are well-known to some of its core constituents. Ron’s music reflects his and his crew’s broad and deep experience of Detroit’s rich mix of genres and traditions. (Ron has made Motown music with Martha Reeves\, creative funk with Lyman Woodard and Wendell Harrison\, the highly individual sounds of Doug Hammond and Faruq Z. Bey\, as well as gospel and praise in several churches.) The Crew includes James Hughes\, saxes; Zen Zadravec\, piano; Jaribu Shahid\, bass; and Renell Gonsalves\, drums. In their February shows\, the Ron English Crew will offer fresh takes on some jazz standards\, further develop Ron’s originals from his recordings (especially Dance/Cry/Dance)\, and premiere new compositions the crew is developing for future recording releases.

Karim has performed with Randy Weston\, Joshua Redman\, Sean Jones\, Danilo Perez\, Scott Gwinnell\, Omar Sosa\, Glen Hall\, Bernie Koenig. He is currently a member of In the Tradition jazz Ensemble under the Direction of Olujimi Tafatooa\, and can be heard on their current album “Ancestral Alliances.”
