Nate Topo is a Detroit-based composer, saxophonist, pianist, and vocalist known for his distinctive tone and memorable live performances. A professional musician since the age of fifteen, he has become a dynamic presence in Detroit’s music scene.
At an early age, he became a regular at the legendary Bert’s Marketplace sessions led by Bill Meyer, sharing the stage with artists such as Martha Reeves and James Carter.
Nate has also been a staple at the Detroit Jazz Festival, performing there for four consecutive years, including alongside Artist-in-Residence Jason Moran in 2025.
His music has taken him beyond Detroit to New Orleans, where he has performed alongside jazz greats such as Charlie Gabriel and Shannon Powell, including several appearances at historic Preservation Hall.
Nate’s tone is shaped by a rare collection of vintage saxophones, blending the warmth ofearly jazz with a modern creative edge. Whether interpreting jazz standards, funk classics, or performing his original music, often described as soul pop with a Motown influence, he adapts each set to the room while staying true to the musical foundation that influences his work.
